Loftus Leapers

The Loftus Leapers are a school based jump rope (skipping) team who perform at various venues throughout the year. They are divided up into three different squads;

The Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) squad contains 20 students from years 3 to 6. This squad is a Jump Rope for Heart Demonstration Team and ambassadors for the Heart Foundation. They take part in demonstrations at other schools throughout the year promoting healthy living, keeping fit and having fun and encouraging fund raising by schools for the Heart Foundation. The JRFH squad trains on Monday afternoons from 3:30 until 4:30.

The Elites squad is comprised of 8 of the most experienced and highly skilled skippers from the JRFH squad. The Elites perform at the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival, NSW Swifts halftime entertainment and any other special occasion where a smaller and very talented group is required. In addition to the regular JRFH training the Elites train from 4:30 to 5:00 on Monday afternoons.

The Competition squad is made up of students who show a very high level of skill in both performance and endurance aspects of skipping. They train on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00 and spend a lot of their own time refining their skills. This squad participates in the competition aspects of skipping including the State and National Championships. There are a number of financial commitments that are a requirement of this squad too.

The various squads have previously performed at over 50 schools, the Opening Ceremony of the Australian Youth Olympics, the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival, last year starred in a promotional DVD for Jump Rope for Heart and recently performed to rapturous applause at half time for a NSW Swifts netball game at Allphones Arena and many of the previous and current members have ranked very highly at both the State and National Skipping Championships.
