Dance is a popular component of the Creative Arts curriculum and contributes towards the strong culture of performing arts at Loftus Public School. Our extensive and inclusive dance program upholds a high reputation of opportunity and excellence. From Year 1 to Year 6, all students are welcomed to be part of a dance troupe.
The selection of Dance Groups are:
- Dance Squad (Selective group, Stage 3)
- Pocket Rockets (Selective group, Years 3, 4 and 5)
- Boys Hip Hop 3 - 6
- Girls Hip Hop 3 - 6
- Year 1 and Year 2 Dance Groups
Performance Dance Groups
Loftus Public School provides two performance groups for students who possess a high level of ability and talent in dance. These are the Dance Squad and the Pocket Rockets. Students are selected through an audition process and must demonstrate dance ability, performance skills and choreography capability. Successful students are required to demonstrate a high level of commitment and dedication towards learning their dance routine. Both dance groups perform at Education Week events and may represent the Loftus Public School at festivals and other prestigious events throughout the year.
Boys Hip Hop
Boys Hip Hop started in 2012 and has been extremely popular ever since. It is an exclusive dance troupe, offered to boys in Years 3-6. It is a continuation of the Boys Education Program and encourages boys to become involved in a new and challenging form of physical activity. It is a great way for the students to explore movement in a relaxed environment, whilst at the same time, forming new friendships. Boys Hip Hop rehearsals are held once a week during lunchtime and require 100% commitment. Performances throughout the year include Open Day and Grandparents Day in Term 3.
Girls Hip Hop
The Girls Hip Hop is available for any student in Year 3-6. The style of dance taught is ‘JFH' (Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop). A fun and relaxed environment allows the students to build self-confidence while exploring rhythm and movement to current familiar songs. Girls Hip Hop rehearsals are held once a week and require 100% commitment. Performances throughout the year include Open Day and Grandparents Day in Term 3.
Stage 1 Dance
The Year 1 Dance Group and Year 2 Dance Group is a popular junior dance program at Loftus Public School. Dance lessons are held during lunch times. The style of dance taught is Jazz and lessons include stretch, strength, corner work and routine work. Performances throughout the year include; Open Day and Grandparents Day.
At Loftus, we also particiapate in the Sutherland Shire Schools Music Festival with varying groups each year.
